Electromagnetic Compatibility

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) encompasses both the potential interference of a device with other equipment (electromagnetic interference or EMI) as well as ability of a device to operate without interruption in the presence of outside interference (electromagnetic susceptibility or EMS).

Exponent provides Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), RF Systems, and Antenna Systems consulting to clients developing high-performance electronic and wireless systems. We help our clients navigate the increasingly complex framework of interoperability, industry, and regulatory requirements. Our multi-disciplinary team of electromagnetic professionals, electrical engineers, materials scientists, mechanical engineers, and technical specialists, provides these services to both the public, military and private sectors.

We provide support at all phases of the product or system life-cycle, including early design assistance to reduce long-term cost and risk, support with regulatory compliance for intentional and non-intentional RF radiators, and assistance with deployed products or systems that are operating improperly. If failures have occurred or EMC compliance testing fails, Exponent can assist with determining the root-cause and support remediation activities to correct the deficiencies, harden the product or system, and guide the client through re-qualification.
