Batteries & Energy Storage - Compliance Testing
Exponent offers comprehensive regulatory compliance testing and consulting services for a variety of energy storage products.
Exponent is a CTIA Authorized Test Lab (CATL) for cellular phone batteries. The purpose of the CTIA Battery Certification Program is to verify conformance of cellular products to IEEE Std. 1725™ – 2006, 'Standard for Rechargeable Batteries for Cellular Telephones’ through auditing, testing, and a detailed review of supporting evidence from cellular product manufacturers as described in the CTIA Certification Requirements Document. Exponent has been ISO 17025 accredited by A2LA to perform cell testing to the CTIA requirements. Exponent has also been selected as a Battery Compliance Review Organization (BCRO) by CTIA. As a BCRO, Exponent conducts detailed reviews of supporting evidence from cellular product manufacturers. Based on this review, Exponent will verify whether the system complies with all applicable requirements of the CTIA Certification Requirements Document.
Exponent can also perform testing described in the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, tests for lithium and lithium-ion battery packs.
Exponent's internal quality management system is independently assessed against ISO 9001 and Exponent is ISO 9001 accredited.
Exponent routinely conducts testing to explore various aspects of lithium-ion battery safety including response to mechanical thermal and electrical abuse, cell thermal runaway propagation, and fire suppression. Some Exponent reports on this type of testing are available on the Portable Rechargeable Battery Association’s (PRBA) website: http://www.prba.org/prba/publications/battery_studies_and_reports/Default.ashx
