Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 216

Exponent has developed a roof crush testing fixture specifically for testing to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 216 – Roof Crush Resistance; a federal compliance standard for passenger cars.  This fixture however, can also be configured in a multitude of orientations and configurations to meet the needs of a variety of standardized and custom test protocols.  This gives us the ability to not only perform any generation of standardized FMVSS 216 roof crush test, but also any number of one-of-a-kind testing configurations that require quasi-static load application.  The load application is regulated through our computer controlled feedback system to attain the desired load or displacement.  A large slotted test bed is used to adjust positioning of the fixtures and vehicles, as well as secure them in place during testing.  The roof crush testing fixture has a load capability up to 30,000 lbs of force.
