Environmental Risk Management
There is increasing regulatory attention worldwide on the environmental impacts associated with facility processes and products, and with chemical releases during production, use, and following disposal. In anticipation of increased outside scrutiny and liability, companies have been increasingly focused on evaluating their current and historical operations and disposal practices. Exponent staff have extensive experience evaluating company policies, industrial processes, chemical usage, and discharge and disposal regulations and practices. Part of this effort has involved preparing and reviewing company environmental management systems, and evaluating their consistency with national and international standards. We have conducted gap analyses for compliance with elements of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard and the British Standard (BS) OHSAS 18001 Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management, and we have assisted companies with action plan implementation to address compliance and process monitoring gaps. Our reviews have included regulatory compliance and record reviews, material handling and recordkeeping, site inspections, interviews with operations staff, and recommendations for modifying existing programs. We conduct reviews of facility activities to evaluate regulatory compliance of products and processes, due diligence investigations related to asset purchase/sale, and as part of accident reconstructions.
