Dr. Jeff Kornuta Has Been Selected as a New Member of the Guidance, Navigation and Control Technical Committee of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)

February 5, 2016

Dr. Jeff Kornuta, Associate in Exponent's Mechanical Engineering Practice and based out of the Houston Office, has been selected as a new member of the Guidance, Navigation and Control Technical Committee of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

AIAA is the world's largest technical society dedicated to the global aerospace profession with more than 30,000 individual members from 88 countries, and 95 corporate members. Since 1963, members from AIAA have achieved virtually every milestone in modern American flight. The next three years will bring Jeff together with the best and most enthusiastic of those with similar interests and experience.

As part of his graduate work, Jeff evaluated the feasibility of using a momentum exchange tether as a hypersonic parachute during reentry for human space missions. In particular, he quantified reductions in heat loads and temperatures on a reentry capsule as a function of various system parameters using self-developed multi-body dynamics and heat transfer simulation software. His areas of expertise include instrumentation and control systems, dynamics, fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and thermodynamics.
