Kanik Chelani

Kanik Chelani, Ph.D., is a Senior Scientist at Exponent with experience in supporting clients in registering existing and novel substances under REACH and other REACH-like regulatory frameworks. He has diverse professional experience and an academic background as a chemist, holding a Ph.D. in Chemistry.

In his previous role as a consultant chemist, Dr. Chelani successfully delivered hundreds of projects involving substance characterization, analytical strategy development, IUCLID dossier preparation, data-gap assessment and read-across approaches for a range of substances, including nanoforms and UVCBs. He has provided expert analysis and consulting to numerous chemical companies. Industries served include specialty chemicals, adhesives, petrochemicals, lubricants, surfactants, fertilizers, personal care, consumer goods, pigments and electronics.

Dr. Chelani earned his MChem in Pharmaceutical Chemistry with a Year in Industry from the University of Leicester (2016 — 2020) and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from King's College London (2020 — 2024). His academic and professional background spans several areas of chemistry, including organic, inorganic, nanomaterial and polymer chemistry. During his doctoral research he specialized in imaging chemistry, focusing on the development of a targeted nanomaterial-based probe for cancer imaging applications. He has previously published in peer-reviewed academic journals and collaborated on projects with ECHA and the European Union Observatory for Nanomaterials.
