Exponent Principal Obtains API 571 Certification

Mr. Ali Reza, P.E., CFI Principal Engineer in our Thermal Sciences practice and Director of our Southern California offices has obtained the corrosions and materials professional certification (API 571) offered by the American Petroleum Institute. Through this certification, Mr. Reza has added to his expertise and qualifications in evaluating Damage Mechanisms that affect fixed equipment in the refining industry. API statistics demonstrate that fewer than 800 individuals worldwide presently hold this certification. 

Mr. Reza conducts engineering investigations of Loss of Containment events and large loss fires and explosions, with a focus on the petrochemical industry. He has reconstructed complex accident sequences by evaluating design and specification documents, process and operations data, alarm logs, videos and photographs, laboratory test results, examination of physical artifacts and witness interviews in an integrated manner. He is experienced in evaluating the relationship between equipment design, automation and operator decisions and practices. Mr. Reza assists clients in conducting risk and hazard assessments to prevent or mitigate Loss of Containment events and has expertise in evaluating Asset Integrity Management programs, including the review of applicable damage mechanisms and inspection practices to address these mechanisms.
