Dr. Shoven has been a member of the Board of Exponent since 2007. Dr. Shoven is currently the Charles R. Schwab Professor of Economics at Stanford University, where he has taught since 1973. 

He was the Director of the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research from 1989 to 1993 and from 1999 to 2015. He served as Chairman of the Economics Department at Stanford University from 1986 to 1989 and as Dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences from 1993 to 1998. Dr. Shoven earned his Ph.D. in economics from Yale University and his bachelor's degree in physics from University of California, San Diego.

Dr. Shoven is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a recipient of the Paul A. Samuelson Award for Outstanding Scholarly Writing on Lifelong Financial Security, an award-winning teacher at Stanford, and has published more than one hundred professional articles and twenty books. He is also Lead Independent Director of Cadence Design Systems, Inc., and a member of the Board of American Century Funds.  

The Company believes that Dr. Shoven's extensive academic experience and service as director of other public companies qualify him to serve as a director of the Company.
