Exponent's Jessica Isaacs and Lisa Lallo further STEM education with an engaging lesson, giving children an inside look at the science behind helmet safety
In a special episode of CBS's Mission Unstoppable, "Noggins, Nucleotides, and Nuclear Fusion," Exponent engineers Jessica Isaacs, Ph.D., P.E., and Lisa Lallo, Ph.D., P.E., CPP, take viewers inside the science behind snow sports helmets. Through hands-on demonstrations and biomechanical experiments using anthropomorphic test devices (also known as "crash test dummies"), they explain how helmets are designed, tested, and evaluated to reduce injury risk. The episode also provides an opportunity for families to talk with their children about helmet safety and how science helps keep people safe.
Mission Unstoppable, hosted by Miranda Cosgrove, is a popular science show featuring female STEM superstars, from zoologists, astronauts, and codebreakers to engineers and scientists who uncover how everyday objects and systems work. The show has aired since 2019 and been nominated for two Emmy awards.
