Exponent’s laboratory facilities related to corrosion testing and evaluation include electrochemical cells, potentiostats, metallographic equipment, optical and scanning electron microscopes, and tensile test equipment. These capabilities are used to help our clients solve a variety of problems associated with materials selection, degradation mechanisms, and failure analysis in a range of industries, including construction, biomedical, manufacturing, utilities, chemical and petrochemical, and electronics.

Mechanical and Environmental Test Facilities 

  • Computer-controlled load frames for determining the mechanical properties of metal composites, polymers, or advance materials in air or in a corrosive environment. This equipment can be used to determine the susceptibilility of a material to environmentally assisted cracking such as stress-corrosion cracking (SCC), hydrogen-assisted cracking or embrittlement (HAC or HE), or corrosion-fatigue 
  • Cyclic oxidation and gravimetric equipment are available for high temperature oxidation and weight loss or gain evaluations 
  • Cyclic temperature and humidity equipment and furnaces are available for highly accelerated environmental testing
